Hybrid Mural - The Owl

These are the 6 stages of a floor mural I did yesterday. It is part of a large group of pieces done by artists at Hybrid Apparel, where I work. The whole project (12 individual murals) was started and completed in ONE day! Lots of work, but well worth it. The overall finished product of all the imagery is pretty amazing.

3 Women

My sister recently left for Afghanistan on her second tour abroad and while looking through some old drawings I found this piece that I did right before my sister left for her first tour. I was still in college.. and it was done from a photograph that I took of her and my mom on our old living room couch. My mom was crying. I thought it would have made me sad to see it again, but it was a different feeling all together. I'm proud of where I come from and the strength of my family to weather such extreme change and uncertainty.

Stop Abuse Campaign Poster 2

How many ways can you interpret the same idea and still make it fresh? This is a huge question.. I think the challenge of reinterpreting an existing idea is one of the best ways to grow. You know the concept has a context, but because the idea is familiar, it needs to be filtered in a new way. Here is my 'go' at this challenge.. there will be one last piece in the series, as well.

Stop Abuse Campaign Poster 1

Most of my work lately seems to be connected to non-profit organizations and informative ads. I'm drawn to the line between creating a compelling/evocative visual and over-sharing on a subject that is already difficult for some people to confront. I genuinely think most individuals want to care, but they need the space to make a decision.. for this reason, I believe going simple is often better.
